Another day in elk country

August 10th 2011 found me once again in the Benezette terrain in search of some nice bull elk. It took 6 hours to find this fella off of Mt. Zion rd. Never been back this far before but just had to have one more chance before departing home.

As I approached a divide in the road I decided to swing in off the main to a small tram road and there he was up there standing right in the middle of the road. As I approached he went across the road as if the go down over the hill then suddenly turned back from where he came.

He gave me many good shots on the Canon 40D and I got within 20feet of him and he sort of welkomed me to his lil world.

I called this guy Disturbed, man he sure is big and we thot sure he was going to charge us henceforth the reason for photographying him from the opposite side of the car. He did eventually go around us and walked off in peace.

found 2D on winslow hill with 2 other bulls and 3 cows. As usual I have had a lot of luck with these guys around the Elk View Diner

We sure are going to miss this guy. He was one big bull elk and was a friendly guy. I walked right up to his this day with no problem. I know not a good thing to do but they seem to know you are a friend.

He was taken in the 2010 hunt what a shame he became a targeted bull.

these two had us laughing for about 10 minutes in town one morning and they were really going to it. After this altercation the bull spun sideways left the scene seems he had enough.

Limpy in the saddle

while out on the saddle with Willard and Coy Hill we came across limpy. He was resting up above us and as we climbed our way up the hill he never moved. We took several photos of him befire he got up and slowly wondered on down over the hil. Hes a great bull and hope he survived the hunt.

The fall rut

the fall rut may have slowly started and heading into the month of September as we speak. We will be making the trip a few times this fall as the rut is really some thing to witness.

As I stand on God's precious lands and listen to these majestic animals do their thing it makes one blood tingle at least mine does.

Will be looking ahead to some great photos with some good friends as the season moves on.

We have four conveniently located boat launches at Yellow Creek.

How I love these mornings at the top of Winslow hill. I usually arrive there at around 5am and just wait for mthe sunrises to appear. One gets the feeling of the closeness it brings to the Creator.
